Northeastern United States has been hit by a rare line of severe thunderstorms which was the cause of one death in the New Jersey region. The deceased was a 26-year-old woman who was electrocuted while getting out of her car in Fanwood.
Not only this, the storms ended up wreaking havoc over the Northeastern parts of the United States including northern parts of New England as well. As per the National Weather Service of the United States, a tornado was also spotted close to Woodland in Maine.
In both New England and the Northeast, over eight airports including the Boston Logan International Airport were forced to a ground stop due to these storms. This included three in the Washington-Baltimore area as well.
Not only this, several flights were canceled during this period, along with a number of flight delays. Gusty winds were reported at the Newark Airport.
Tornado warnings were issued for both the New Hampshire and the Maine region, which is quite rare. Also, during the storms, more than 6000 homes faced power outage in Connecticut and 13,000 homes were short of power in New Hampshire.
The New Hampshire area also witnessed golf ball sized hail during this period. Lightning strikes were also reported across New York including twice over the One World Trade Center.
