Severe Heatwave in Japan kills 14, more than 6000 hospitalized

Severe heatwave has gripped parts of Japan resulting in 14 deaths. Also, more than 6,000 people across the nation have been hospitalized. The maximum temperatures in many parts of Japan are recording in triple digits (Fahrenheit).

The location that topped the charts of being the hottest was Tatebayashi at 100.8°F on Wednesday. Last week Takada at 101.3°F was on top of the list. Tokyo was also hot at 93.7°F. The usual high temperatures of the region are in the 80s. The all-time record high of 97 and 99°F was recorded back in the 1970s.

As compared to last week, the number of people being admitted to hospitals have doubled. Saitama had around 605 patients, the largest number in the nation. In Tokyo alone, more than 500 people were admitted into hospitals after they collapsed or their bodies showed heat reacted symptoms. Also, in Osaka over 300 people needed medical attention due to the prevailing weather conditions in the region.

Out of the 14 deaths, 10 deaths occurred in the Greater Tokyo region. Also, the most vulnerable were the elderly. This year, Japan has witnessed around 25 deaths due to severe heatwave conditions. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in the country at least till the weekend.
