Santa Ana winds to heighten the risk of fire in Southern California

California Fire Watch post

There are probabilities of destructive gales and an elevated fire threat across Southern California through midweek. The reason for this occurrence could be attributed to Santa Ana winds, which are dry and blustery winds blowing towards the shore from inland desert regions during the autumn months.

These winds are expected to gust between 80-90 kmph in the wind-prone canyons and passes. Owing to this situation, Red Flag Warnings and Wind Advisories have been issued through Tuesday afternoon for a large extent of the region, including Santa Barbara, the Greater Los Angeles, San Bernardino and areas east of San Diego.

The impacts are anticipated to be widespread travel disruptions, followed by flight delays at area hubs like Los Angeles International Airport.

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution due to poor road visibility at times as the winds may blow up dust or transport wildfire smoke.

As per weathermen, most of Southern California has had observed severe to extreme drought conditions so far. However, some spells were witnessed over the region during latter half of the last week.

Now the hot days are back due to the fresh strand of dry winds. In addition to the gusty winds, the threat of worsening wildfires has increased.
