Rio 2016 Olympics: Swarming rains delay rowing and tennis tournament

Rain in Rio

The effect of bad weather conditions could be easily seen over Rio de Janerio, Brazil where Olympics 2016 is currently going on.

Olympic rowing regatta was called off on Wednesday local time due to heavy rains and winds. As claimed by the media officer, organizers were planning a meeting to revise a schedule for Thursday’s events.

The women’s and men’s quadruple sculls were supposed to be challenged on Wednesday. However due to heavy rains along with winds bashing the lagoon led to cancelling of the rowing competition.

Australian rower Kim Brennan, in fact, became the first victim of these downpours and she had to dump almost a bucket full of water out from her boat at the finish point.

Haze masked the mountains that flanked the bay on Wednesday morning and rain fell gradually as winds again thrashed up the water.

Moreover, these heavy spells also postponed the tennis tournament. The tournament was well programmed to commence at 10:45 local time but was delayed until 4 pm. That was bad news for Nadal who is still in the singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.

The organizers are now eagerly waiting for Thursday which could possibly bring in some drier weather conditions. However, they also fear of a few showers again showing up leading to further postponement of the events.

Winds could also be an issue for some events particularly during the afternoon.
