Temperatures more like summers will dominate the northwestern parts of US. These temperatures will be record challenging late week. This temperature surge is due to a high pressure area over the west. At the peak of the warmth, the temperatures will be significantly above normal.
Thursday will be the warmest day when widespread warmth is expected. Record breaking warmth is possible in cities like Seattle; Portland and Medford, Oregon; and Redding, California. This record breaking warmth will expand further inland on Friday, covering places like Boise and Pocatello, Idaho; and Bozeman and Billings, Montana.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be close to mid to late July levels. The 26°C mark is likely to be surpassed in Portland, Oregon, which was last recorded on 5th October, 2015. While Seattle is not expected to reach 26°C mark, yet it will reach the highest since mid-September 2015.
There will be plenty of sunshine, which will give the people a great opportunity to do outdoor activities.
The temperatures are likely to dip slightly this weekend but, above normal temperatures will still be there and will continue into early next week. These conditions are quite the opposite of the conditions that will be experienced across northeastern US, where winter-like chill and snow is set to make a comeback.
There is relief on the way as early as next week. The large area of high pressure is expected to weaken and give way to frequent storms to the west coast. This will result in rain and seasonable condition by the middle of next week.
