Sharjah, Dubai as well as Abu Dhabi witnessed a rainy surprise on Thursday as well as Friday. However, the one thing that caught attention is the snowfall that was observed in the mountain region of the United Arab Emirates.
The highest mountain in UAE, Jabal Jais saw crispy white snow on Friday which happens to be a rare phenomenon. The temperature at the Ras Al Khaimah dropped below freezing point and settled at -5 degree Celsius.

If the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) is to be believed, the temperatures are expected to drop down even further in the coming days. There is a possibility that the mountain may observe minimums around -6 degrees as well.

The Jabal Jais mountain, 1934 metres high is not too far away from Dubai and is a mere 175 km away. The last time it snowed over Jabal Jais mountain was a couple of years ago. Meanwhile in Dubai, one of the stages of the cycling race, Tour of Dubai was cancelled because of strong winds which could be dangerous to the riders.

These weather conditions were attributed to the cold snap because of the low-pressure area in South Iran extending up to UAE and Oman. Due to which northwesterly winds were activated resulting in a steep drop in temperatures.
