Rain threat looms large on the May Day festivities across parts of Germany this weekend. Showers and thunderstorms approaching the region on Saturday will turn steadier on Saturday night across central Germany, from the border of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria to Hamburg.
The bonfires during the festivities are expected to douse off as occasional heavy rain might occur. Elsewhere, only brief showers can be expected and Saturday night will be virtually rain free. The minimum temperatures might fall to 3°C and people in the region will need a jacket.
In southwestern Germany the rain will persist on Saturday night and will linger on till Sunday morning. This includes Frankfurt and Stuttgart. During the afternoon the rain will taper off.
People in eastern and central will be spared of the bulk of the rain but umbrellas might come in handy.
In northern Germany, showers will be isolated lasting upto 30 minutes only.
Despite showers, the cold air that was present during the week will give way to seasonal conditions on Saturday and Sunday. This will make the conditions more comfortable for outdoor activities especially when there is dry weather.
Maximum temperatures in Berlin will go upto 18°C and the minimum temperature will dip to 6°C on Saturday night. Temperatures will be lower on Sunday.
