Turkey is likely to witness rounds of rain over the coastal areas and snow in the interiors during the final days of 2016.

In wake of the storm in Central Turkey on Tuesday, a couple of fresh storms may affect the region during mid or towards the end of the week.

Each of these storms is expected to produce rain and snow at the coast across western and central parts of Turkey.

Snowfall may create slick roads leading to travel as well as disruptions to daily schedules.

A fresh bout of snow is expected to occur over the capital city of Turkey, Ankara around Wednesday through Thursday. Also parts of Konya and Kayseri will observe snowfall during the similar time period.

Moreover, this additional bout of snow will spread and cover the Taurus and Koroglu Mountains. About 30 cm of snow is expected by the end of Thursday. Travel to these mountain passes will become problematic to almost impossible due to heavy snowfall.

The showery snowflakes are expected to mix with the rain along the western coast of Turkey, including the cities of Istanbul and Izmir, where the strong winds will make it feel like the winter chill enough for snow. Temperatures will plummet between 3 to 7 degrees Celsius below zero in Istanbul during late this week.

Each of the storms is anticipated to produce rain up to 1 to 3 inches in Alanya, Mersin and Adana. Flash flooding may occur during Friday due to heavy rains over several areas. Rain and snow will continue to persist over parts of Turkey until Saturday, before the chilly weather unfolds during the first days of 2017.
