Summer heat is likely to return back across the northeastern United States after rain and thunderstorms through Monday. Temperatures are expected to climb almost 10 to even 15 degrees above normal in some areas. Meanwhile, occasional showers have kept the temperatures to 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit above normal.
Sufficient rain is expected to soak the ground and allow some lawns to green up and start to grow again. Isolated instances of flash flooding are likely especially where heavy showers continue.
As the rain will set out on Tuesday, sunshine and heat will throttle back to the region. Possible highs could be from the lower 80s in Boston to the middle 80s Fahrenheit in Washington, D.C. Highs in the upper 70s to middle 80s will be common through interior parts of the Northeast.
Dry weather is anticipated to go along with the heat for most of the areas.
Spotty showers and thunderstorms may inhibit few places of upstate New York and New England as a weak front passes through on Tuesday.
Light showers are also expected to linger along the mid-Atlantic and southern New England coasts, this could hold back temperatures a bit.
Frequent rain and thunderstorms in southern Virginia and the Carolinas will certainly put the brakes on the heat returning.
A few places across the region may face dense fog through Tuesday morning.
While the heat may return back during the middle of the week, particularly across the interior, some areas will remain 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit above normal for the rest of the week.
