Rain and Snow likely to spoil New Year’s festivities in US

Rain and snow is expected to dampen the New Year festivities across the United States. Millions gather each year from around the globe to be a part of these celebrations.

According to weathermen, several weather features are anticipated across the nation on Saturday night into Sunday.

The reason for these conditions can be attributed two storms approaching the Eastern states by New Year’s Day.

While one storm is likely to bring snow over parts of Northeast US from late Saturday into Sunday morning, the second will give good amounts of rain from north up to south until weekend.

Most snow is likely along and north of Interstate 80.

New York City and Washington, D.C. are expected to continue experiencing rainy showers till New Year’s Eve.

Even if the rainfall remains light in nature, the cloud cover is expected to obscure the fireworks during the celebrations.

Rain will spread eastward from Louisiana into Georgia and northward into Tennessee and Kentucky including New Orleans and Nashville.

In wake of the storms, moisture will spread across the Pacific Northwest as well as Southern California and the Southwest. These rains will also hinder the New Year celebrations taking place at Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas and San Diego.

The rainy spells are expected to change over to snow in Seattle during late Saturday night, producing a thin white blanket for the start of the New Year. The hills and the western slopes of the Cascades and the Olympic Range will be most affected.

Most parts of the country will record temperatures near or slightly above normal at the start of 2017.
