A fresh onslaught of torrential rains along with thunderstorm and chilly winds are foreseen over the already quake-destroyed regions of New Zealand.
The Meteorological Department has already issued a severe weather warning against heavy showers along with destructive winds that are likely to appear in the region within next 48 hours.
The already swamped areas will be again lashed by another burst of heavy showers. The cold southerly gales are expected to bash the aftershock ravaged Kaikoura Coast and Wellington.
To add on to the already devastated parts of the country, snow will be doing the remaining harshness. Warning of snowfall has been issued for the Canterbury high country as well.
Though as per the weatherman, the intensity of rain will be much lesser as compared to the downpour that the country has witnessed a day before. Though with the already sopping streets, chances of flooding also cannot be ruled out completely.
Though the rainfall will be of a shorter duration but storms could possibly bring in heavy fall especially on State Highway One near Porirua and on the Kapiti Coast. Another rainy gust is also set to fall on Buller to northwest Nelson and western regions of the North Island from Wellington to Taupo.
Weather will turn upside down and take a wintry shot with the cold southerlies blasting the east coast along with rainy spells over Kaikoura, Marlborough and Wellington. Snowfall is also expected for Lewis, Arthurs and Porters passes.
As per the weatherman, snow measuring up to 10 cm is expected to settle starting from tonight until tomorrow.
While, the evacuation process along with the maintenance work has been going on in some parts of the state, the further possibility of rain will be a deteriorating factor for the emergency services. However, the cold southerly wind flow is expected to ease out but there is another front expected to come over the South Island which could bring in more rainy spells.
