Portland snow leads to traffic congestion; affects major roadways

Snowy weather interrupted the traffic commute around Portland, Oregon in the entire city on Wednesday evening.

Snow started to fall early Wednesday afternoon and accumulated the roadways affecting and grid locking the traffic conditions across the city on the evening.

The roadways including I-5, I-84, I-205 and Highway 26 were badly affected by the snow storm. The destructive road conditions even led to travel delays all across the city. Soma major roadways around Portland was also affected by the wintry weather.

Traffic was halted and many cars were unrestricted on the mid-road which led to problems for most of the travelers and motorists. Most of the motorists were stuck in the halted traffic for more than three hours.

Due to icy and slick road conditions, drivers were advised to be careful while driving and stay calm and patient. Freezing rain in the farther south around Eugene, Oregon created similar travel conditions like around Portland.

Traffic took a standstill in the Oregon region due to chilly showers. Due to the incessant icy rain, the city also witnessed power outages and trembling of trees. Over 75 percent of neighborhoods in Eugene went without power.

Moreover, the Cascade Mountains in Oregon also witnessed over a foot of snow which resulted in several avalanches. As per the Oregon State Police, Highway 20 was affected by three avalanches leading to closing down the highway for multiple hours.

Though the avalanches have not caused any injuries furthermore, the snow was detached by Oregon DOT within a few hours of the snow slides. However, as per the weatherman, as the system which is leading to the winter weather is expected to move off to the east, the weather conditions are expected to recover from this stormy weather across Thursday.

This will lead to the improvisation of the travel and road conditions across the state.
