While we may have thought of February bringing in some good news, Climate Change is only making life worse.
As per the latest data, the conditions have even gotten worse for the year 2016.
February 2016 has been recorded as the hottest month since records exist. If you plan to blame El Nino, you may want to read further.
According to David Karoly, Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Melbourne, El Nino in 1997-1998 were way stronger than the present one. In the year 1998 when hotter year’s records were set, El Nino was the sole factor. However, this time, it would not be fair to blame El Nino alone.
February 2016 with a +0.83°C has been quite warmer than the strongest El Nino year in 1998 (+0.74°C). The Northern Hemisphere in February 2016 has been about 0.32°C warmer than 1998.
Greenhouse gas emissions, which further result in Global Warming, can be a major factor responsible for this massive increase in temperatures. Ecosystems around the world are severely affected due to these rising temperatures. If these conditions continue to persist, parts of The Great Barrier Reef may be permanently destroyed.
