Pennsylvania 400: Pocono NASCAR race postponed to Monday due to rain

August 1, 2016 12:32 PM |

NASCAR1NASCAR fans will have to wait for a bit longer to see the running of the Pennsylvania 400 at the Pocono raceway due to rain and thunderstorms.

Several spells of rain moved over the race track on Sunday, this led to the race being postponed to Monday. This is the second such race held at the Pocono Raceway this summer, the first one also had similar weather conditions which led to postponements.

Monday doesn’t look to be a washout, however rain and thunderstorms are forecasted throughout the day. This could lead to delays and fans have to be prepared with their rain gear.

It is rare to see the race postponed for two days in a row but, if the race is held on Tuesday the fans and racers can expect drier conditions.

Due to the clouds and rain, the temperatures will be below normal. Downpours could lead to flooding over the parking areas around the race track. Heavy rain could cause the grassy areas to turn muddy which will make it difficult for vehicles to exit the track after the race is complete.

Rain postponed the Axalta ‘We Paint Winners' 400 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, June 5. More than 12 mm of rain fell over the Poconos. The following day saw drier and milder conditions which enabled the race to go on.
