Parts of central and southern Pakistan are reeling under a heat wave with temperatures settling over 40°C in many places. The last one week has been horrid for the people in this region. The places which have recorded temperature above 40°C in the last week are:
Pad Idan 45.5°C on 19th April and 43.5°C on 22nd April, Hyderabad 43°C on 18th April and 41.5 on 22nd April, Nawabshah 46.5°C on 18th April and 43°C on 22nd April, Chhor 44.5°C on 17th April and 41.7°C on 22nd April, Rohri 44.5°C on 18th and 19th April and 42°C on 22nd April, Turbal 44.5°C on 17th April and 42°C on 22nd April.
This type of hot and dry weather is common for this time of the year particularly for the months of April, May and June. June also remains hot because the monsoon current is very weak. This is due to the prevailing hot and dry westerly winds that are blowing over the region. There have been instances in the past where the temperature has crossed 50°C in the year 2013, Larkana recorded 51°C and at the same place in the year 1998, 53°C was recorded.
