A tropical cyclone named Quang along with a non-tropical storm will cause heavy rain, starting Friday, over both the coasts of Australia. Cyclone Quang, which started as a Category 4 storm, has now weakened into a Category 2 storm and will weaken even further. However, it will still hit the Northwest coast of Exmouth Bay as a tropical storm.
Presently, Quang is located at 21.5°S and 112.9°E, approximately 200 km northwest of Learmonte. The storm is tracking southeastwards at the rate of 25km/hr. Strong winds have increased around Quang causing the cyclone to weaken further. It is expected to make landfall today, which will result in inclement weather with heavy rain and squally winds for the next 24 hours. From Friday evening, and through Saturday night, the rainfall will further spread across Western Australia. Rough seas off the coast will be dangerous for boaters.
Meanwhile, a non-tropical storm on the western coast of Australia will cause heavy rain from the southeastern Queensland coast to the northern coast of New South Wales. The coastal areas right from Brisbane to the north of Sydney will observe heavy rain. Urban areas and small streams may witness flash flooding due to heavy rain in the region.
Extremely heavy rain will fall across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and southeast Queensland on Saturday. Over 200mm of rain has already been recorded in the state in the last 36 hours. Residents have been asked to prepare for potential flash flooding.
