November can be a cloudy month for a great part of the northern United States. This can be attributed to the jet-stream winds which are sinking southward out of Canada as we move closer to winter, bringing increased stormy weather across the northern regions.
As per weatherman, November is considered as the cloudiest month of the year for most parts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, northeastern Iowa and parts of North Dakota. This includes Milwaukee, Green Bay and Madison in Wisconsin; Minneapolis, Duluth, International Falls and Rochester in Minnesota; and Cedar Rapids and Waterloo in Iowa.
Moreover, for Fargo in Bismarck, Williston in North Dakota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan including Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie, November is the gloomiest month of the year.
In November, the cold fronts overflow the hot Great Lakes; this produces lake-effect rain and snow, hence adding to a cloudy month downwind of the Great Lakes.
In spite of a normal of more than 80 percent of haze and mist downwind of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie and in western Oregon and Washington, November is not the cloudiest month in these regions, it's actually December. Nevertheless, the average percentage of cloud cover between November and December is so close; it's almost a toss back.
