Northeastern US to witness cool weekend

As fall has officially begun on Thursday across the United States, cool weather is expected during the weekend over the Northeast.

This weekend, a cold front is likely to reach southward from Canada, leading to cooler air across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.

Interior northeast is expected to witness their first frost of the season on Sunday night into Monday morning. In most areas, highs will linger in the 80 degree Fahrenheit on Friday. In fact, those in northern New York and New England will begin to feel the winter chills.

Highs will hover from 50 degree Fahrenheit across northern New England to around 60s in southern New England into central and southern New York State and 70s across the mid-Atlantic.

While the weekend will be cool for many areas, highs will be near or slightly below average.

Average highs are expected to range from 60 degree Fahrenheit across New York state and northern new England to the lower 70s from Pittsburgh to New York City and Boston and the upper 70s in Washington, D.C.

Many places over west of the Appalachians will miss the cool air this weekend. This includes the cities of Pittsburgh and Charleston in West Virginia.

Showers and thunderstorms will accompany this cooler air. The cooler air will continue over southward through the weekend and reach the Carolinas by Monday.

While it will remain fall-like for much of the upcoming week, summer is likely  to return from late September into early October.

While summerlike air may be hard to come by over the next few weeks, it is not uncommon for summer warmth to make brief returns into mid-October.
