Northeast US to witness first freeze of autumn

October 11, 2016 9:23 AM |

US FREEZE AUTUMN

The first freeze of the season will loom over the areas of the Northeast United States early this week. However, incessantly cool air will make a comeback soon, as northerly winds during the afternoons will keep the temperatures 4-8°F below normal.

An area of high pressure is likely to build across the region this week, giving some dry days with sunshine and few clouds.

As per weather experts, clear skies and calm winds are expected to bring the first widespread frost and freeze to the interior parts of Northeast around Tuesday morning.

With this, temperatures are likely to dip into the higher 20s and lower 30s across north-central Pennsylvania to northern New England and the St. Lawrence Valley on Tuesday.

In the meantime, patchy frost may possibly develop elsewhere across the region. The only exception will be along the Great Lakes and from Interstate 95 to the coast where temperatures will remain in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Regardless of the cool start to the week, temperatures will pick up pace during late this week. Wednesday and Thursday are likely to be the warmest two days this week, as temperatures will reach near- to above-average levels for mid-October.

Temperatures in New York City to Washington DC will climb near or above 70°F while middle to upper 60s will be common farther west.

The majority of the week will feature pleasing afternoons and early evenings.

The threat for downpours are expected around Thursday into Friday when a weak cold front passes through. Widespread rain is likely across the Northeast and New England.

In the wake of the front, mainly dry and more seasonable conditions are expected to return on Friday and into the upcoming weekend.
