North Carolina bears the brunt of Matthew, flood warning remainsHurricane Matthew has caused a turmoil in Haiti and several parts of the United States. While over 900 people have reportedly been killed in Haiti alone, the death toll has risen to 30 in the United States due to Matthew.

Out of the 21 deceased, eleven were from North Carolina, four from Florida, and three each from Georgia as well as South Carolina.

While Matthew has moved away venturing into the sea, the flood warnings remain intact for several parts of North Carolina due to rise in the water levels in rivers. In Moore County, evacuations were underway during wee hours of the night due to warnings.

Residents were sent to safer areas after being rescued from their submerged homes by responders in choppers or rafts. Federal aid has been ordered by President Obama after he declared 31 counties in North Carolina a massive disaster zone.

Around 500,000 people were still witnessing power outages on Monday in North Carolina.  The entire town of Princeville had to be evacuated as floodwaters from the Tar River inundated the streets and homes of the town.

Homes and businesses were damaged as over a foot of rain was witnessed in the south-eastern part of the state. Many rivers in the region were flowing above the danger levels including the Tar River, Cashie River and the Cape Fear River.
