New York all set to receive first snowfall of 2016

New York City is all set to witness the first snow day of 2016. An unusually warm weekend will be followed by the first snow day of this new year on Tuesday.

Snowfall is anticipated after 4:00 p.m. in New York and rain is likely before the snowfall.

The city will probably receive less than half an inch of snow but motorists should be careful of some icy spots on the roads.

Snow squalls are likely right from Cleveland to Boston early this week. As snowfall is expected during the rush hours, it could pose serious travel woes for many.

The fresh arctic air will bring the coldest air, so far this season, in many regions from the Midwest to the East. This cold air will be ushered in by an Alberta clipper storm system. This storm system will strengthen by Tuesday night and is not expected to drop substantial snow until it reaches northern New England. Nevertheless, travelers across the Northeast and Midwest are advised not to let their guard down.

We can expect a general coating to a couple of inches of snow from the Upper Midwest to areas just west of Interstate 95.

Snow squalls will spread out to Montreal in Canada; Albany and Binghamton in New York; Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Allentown in Pennsylvania; Charleston in West Virginia; and Lexington in Kentucky.
