After wreaking havoc over Taiwan, Super Typhoon Nepartak weakened into a tropical storm. Now, the tropical storm has hit China bringing heavy rain accompanied by strong winds over the region. The storm made landfall over Shishi city of the Fujian province at around 1.45 pm, local time.
Before the arrival of the storm, more than 2 lakh people were evacuated from low lying areas. Also, about 33 thousand boats were also ordered to return to ports. The storm packed winds of over 100 kmph causing chaos over many parts.
China has already been facing in terms of inclement weather conditions as massive floods had hit some parts of the country. Due to these floods, over 160 people were reported to be dead with more than 25 people missing.
Due to the tropical storm, both rail and air transport has been bearing the brunt. While several flights were cancelled, more than hundred trains have also been cancelled. Disruption of road traffic has also taken place.
Putian city observed over 250 mm of rain in just a span of four hours during the early morning hours on Saturday which is why a red rainstorm alert has been issued in the city. Not only this, but more than 22 thousand people have also been dispatched for the purpose of checking the water projects, and local flood control of the city.
