The Indian subcontinent, including Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, has received good amount of rain in last 24 hours. Temperatures in all the three countries have witnessed a marginal drop providing relief from the scorching summer heat.

Rain in Pakistan

At present, a Western Disturbance is over Afghanistan adjoining Pakistan but an induced cyclonic circulation is over Central Pakistan adjoining west Rajasthan. Due to this induced circulation, convective clouds developed over parts of Central Pakistan which has given fairly widespread rain over that area.

In the last 24 hours, Bahawalpur, Khanpur and Zhob received 11 mm rain each, respectively. Sibi observed 7 mm rain and Multan recorded 5 mm of rain. This circulation has impacted parts of Rajasthan as well. Bikaner observed 4 mm rain.

The maximum temperature in Central Pakistan that was settling in the higher 40s, has come down to the higher 30s and lower 40s, which is 6 to 7 degrees below normal. Heatwave conditions in Pakistan have also abated.

This cyclonic circulation has shifted to Rajasthan but scattered rain over Multan will continue for another 24 hours.

Rain in Bangladesh

Southwest Monsoon has already covered the central and southern parts of Myanmar. An upper air cyclonic circulation over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Bihar has induced rain activities over Bangladesh and Northeast India. Moisture laden winds from Bay of Bengal have increased the humidity over the entire region.

In the last 24 hours, Tarangpur received 56 mm rain, Saidpur (76 mm), Dinazpur (99 mm), Chandpur (24 mm) and Sylhet (38 mm).

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Bangladesh will continue to receive moderate to heavy rain for another 4-5 days.

Rain in Myanmar

Southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal are reaching up to the Arakkan Coast of Myanmar. The region has been receiving good rain since the last few days. In the last 24 hours, Henzada received 45 mm rain, Bago (38 mm), Pyapon (23 mm), and Mergui (101 mm). No change is anticipated in the wind patterns.

Therefore, coastal areas will continue to receive rain for the next 4 to 5 days. Monsoon at present is active over the Arakkan Coast.

Last week, Sri Lanka witnessed fairly widespread rain. At present though, Monsoon has covered southern parts of Sri Lanka, but it is in its weaker phase. Sri Lanka has been observing light scattered rain. Good rain in the region can be expected by May 31.
