People in Chicago will wake up to see the city upended after a series of severe storms had hit the city. Four tornadoes were reported to have lashed Chicago near Ottawa, III killing one.
These tornadoes touched grounds around Ottawa in La Salle County, Ill. Tornadoes were also reported in Standard, Ottawa, Marseilles and Morris. As per the officials, close to fifty homes have been badly devastated.
The entire town including districts like Kankakee County in Illinois, Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter Counties in Indiana are under tornado watch until 4 am (local time).
Severe storms along with heavy squalls, large hails and destructive winds have caused havoc across the area on Tuesday. News of downed trees, power outages, broken window panes and gas leakages have been reported by the locals of Ottawa and Naplate.
A total of 14 people has been taken to the nearby hospital in Ottawa for minor storm-related injuries. People were dislocated due to multiple tornadoes and most of them had to seek shelter at the nearby schools. However, the Red Cross has also established lodgings at Ottawa High School trying to offer the people seeking shelters all the basic necessities required.
The southern sun urban region of Homewood was also badly affected by back to back torrential downpour. Due to this, two cars have to be towed from the flooded viaduct at Park Avenue and Dixie Highway.
