Monster Storm in California brings flood, rain, and snow

A Godzilla storm has begun to wreak havoc over several parts of California. The storm is said to be the most powerful storm to have affected the region in a decade. The state of California had been drought hit for quite some time.

Rivers have become flooded and several roads have been shut due to mudslides over areas. Evacuations are in full swing in the Sonoma county in California due to flooding in the region. Not only this, the neighbouring parts of Nevada are also witnessing similar weather conditions.

The Russian River which continued to flow above danger levels may witness further rise during the next 24 to 48 hours. Thus, at least 650 homes have been evacuated in Guerneville and Monte Rio communities. In Nevada, at least 400 homes were evacuated due to flooding rains.

As per the National Weather Service, several rivers in California including the Truckee, Carson and Susan are already flowing above the flood levels which is a matter of concern for thousands living in the regions adjoining the rivers.

In San Ramon, a woman was killed on Saturday due to a falling tree. While several areas of Sierra Nevada and Bay Area have witnessed rains amounting between 3 and 7 inches, Central California witnessed at least 10 inches of total rainfall.

There have been reports of downed trees in many parts of San Francisco. The Bay Area has observed power outages with over 40,000 being without power on Sunday.

Heavy rain and snow were also recorded in the higher reaches of the Sierra Nevada area. More rainfall along with several feet of snow is likely to follow.

Water levels were on the rise over many areas of the capital city of California, Sacramento. During the next 24 to 48 hours, heavier rain is possible over southern parts of California.
