People in southeastern US will have to contend with warm and muggy conditions during the start on May. This comes after a blast of cool air that brought cooling over North Carolina during the end of April. Warm and humid air will surge across the southeast. All this warmth is as a result of southerly winds that will sweep the region.
Warm and moisture laden winds coming from the Gulf of Mexico will blow across the region which will lead to high temperatures. The winds blowing from the ocean will keep the coast cooler than the areas inland. The temperatures will be around 32°C from South Carolina to interior Florida. This includes cities like Jacksonville and Tallahassee, Florida; Augusta and Savannah, Georgia; Columbia, South Carolina; and Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina.
Such kind of muggy conditions are fairly common in summers but, people have yet to get accustomed to the warmth and this will lead to health hazards. People in the region have been advised to take precautionary measures and drink plenty of fluids.
However the warm and muggy conditions will not last throughout the day, the conditions will be conducive for showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. Widespread severe weather is not expected but, drenching and gusty thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. No matter how strong the thunderstorm will be, people outdoors will have to seek shelter.
A pair of storm systems which will be accompanied by showers and thunderstorms will being the temperatures down close to or slightly below normal for this time of the year from Tuesday to Thursday. After this less humid air will move across Florida.
