It is going to be a dramatic first week of spring for the Central US with late spring warmth and then a blizzard.
The upward swing in the temperatures will cause record challenging temperatures during the start of this week. Cooler air will return midweek which will make the conditions conducive for snow and blizzards from the northern Rockies to the Upper Midwest.
This was expected during the spring with major fluctuations across the central US. After a chilly weekend, a high-pressure area is expected to hover till the midweek. This will result in warmer air and increased temperatures. Some places might experience significantly higher temperatures than the weekend.
Places include Pueblo, Colorado; Dodge City, Kansas; Oklahoma City; and Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas.
A developing low-pressure area across the plains will bring in cold air over the Central US on Wednesday and Thursday. Gusty winds will create dangerous blizzard conditions. The strong winds south of the line of snowstorms will increase the risk of fire across the southern High Plains.
This weather system will also cause a return of severe thunderstorms accompanied by flooding downpours to the south-central states. The weather across the region will not be as chilly as last weekend. Yet, the temperatures will be significantly lower than the midweek during the end of the week.
This weather is typical of spring and an end to the volatile weather is not expected by the next week.
