Cyclone Enawo strengthens, Madagascar on red alert
Cyclone Enawo has been undergoing several intensifications during the last few hours. In fact, as the system crosses the Indian Ocean, it continued to strengthen and is currently a Category 4 hurricane. As per weathermen, Madagascar may be the direct target of Enawo.
The Madagascar region has been put to red alert after the intensification of the cyclone. The region has been witnessing drought conditions for quite some time now which is why the torrential rains due to the cyclone may result in flash flooding over several parts.
In fact, the mountainous areas are likely to suffer the most. People have been asked to seek shelter in secure areas and store enough drinking water. Mudslides and flooding are also expected as the wind speed is likely to be around 230 kmph.
The Madagascar region is at present a drought affected region. However, a life threatening cyclone is on its way and is about to change the weather conditions prevailing in the Madagascar region. The cyclone had developed in the Indian Ocean region and Madagascar may witness a few very heavy spells as it approaches.
After the furious storm Dineo bid its farewell, it is time for the new Cyclone Enawo to spread its warath over the region. During the next 24 to 48 hours, the system is expected to hit Madagascar. Strong winds will be one of the prominent features of the cyclone’s arrival.
The news of the upcoming cyclone has the surfers in South Africa quite excited. Huge waves are likely as squally winds will be observed over the water bodies. The development of the Cyclone took place in the southern part of the Indian Ocean.
The system is moving towards Madagascar at a speed of 4 kmph at present. As per forecasters, widespread flooding is expected over most parts of Madagascar. The winds due to the cyclone have been gusting up to the speed of 175 kmph. Not only this, the wind speed is likely to increase more. Violent winds as well as flash floods will be observed over the region.
Along with very heavy to extremely heavy rains, waves can even reach up to the height of five metres. As per weathermen, due to the mountainous landscape of Madagascar, the storm will weaken and won’t be able to wreak havoc up to its full potential.
