London gears up for approaching spell of heavy rains

Weather in LondonLondon is all set to witness heavy showers around midnight on Tuesday. According to the state meteorologists, heavy rains over the Channel is likely to hit the southern counties, coming towards London around late night hours.

Though, the city will not be directly affected by rains but heavy downpours from the Channel could be a cause of concern.
August has begun on the rainy note for London, bringing respite from the warm weather. People had witnessed some record day temperatures during the last month.

July has been mainly dry for London, wherein they had also witnessed the hottest day of the year till now. The maximum temperatures had clocked above 30°C, which is not a usual scenario.

Last night, several parts of the United Kingdom saw torrential rains that were almost equivalent to half a month's rain. According to weathermen, these rains can be attributed to the weather system that has been bringing warm and moist air from the Atlantic Ocean.

West Glamorgan in Wales recorded around 39.2 mm of rain in span of 12 hours as compared to the monthly average of 89.5 mm. Swanage in Dorset saw 33.6 mm in the same time period, followed by Wych Cross in East Sussex around 26.4 mm and Larkhill in Wiltshire at 23.2 mm.
