Winter Storm Argos heads towards Northeast US
Winter Storm Argos, the first of its kind for many this season has been wreaking havoc for quite some time now. So much so that two lives have been lost in Minnesota and travel has also been affected in many parts of the United States.
On Sunday, winter storm Argos resulted in a dark day for Rochester in New York where at least 17000 people were witnessing power outages. Heavy snowfall with high velocity winds were observed over the region.
Now, Winter Storm Argos is headed towards the interiors of the Northeastern parts of the United States where snowfall and gusty winds are expected today. People have been advised to halt their travel plans unless necessary as spinouts and crashes may occur due to slippery roads and lesser visibility.
At least a foot of snow is expected over western parts of the state of New York today. The I-95 corridor of Northeast United States will also be affected due to strong winds produced by the winter storm Argos, however, no snowfall is likely in the area.
Winter Storm Argos kills 2 in Minnesota as it moves into the Plains, Midwest
After wreaking havoc in Colorado, Winter Storm Argos has killed two in fatal crashes as it moved towards the Plains. Heavy snowfall was observed over several parts of the region, which also happened to be season’s first in many areas.
While two fatal collisions have been reported, The State Patrol of Minnesota said that there over one hundred crashes, most of them being spinouts.
Wyoming and Montana have already witnessed over a foot of snowfall due to the storm. Several parts of the Upper Midwest geared up for Argos. In fact, many schools were also declared closed before the arrival of the storm. A no travel advisory has been issued in parts of Minnesota by the department of Transportation.
During the next 24 hours, both the Upper Great Lakes and the Mississippi Valley are likely to witness some snowfall. Not only this, a winter storm warning has been issued in areas of North Michigan with heavy snowfall forecast for the region. About 10 to 20 inches of lake snow is likely in New York as well.
The season of winter storms has arrived and winter storm Argus has begun to wreak havoc over several parts of the United States. Only yesterday, heavy snowfall was observed over some areas of the Intermountain West. In fact, for many places in the region, it was the first snowfall of the season.
The storm resulted in a 20-car pileup in the Evergreen region of Colorado which further resulted in the closure of interstate 70. Not only this, Argos caused several crashes as well. Roads had become slick along the Interstate 70 resulting in another car pile-up of 13.
Snowfall in Denver has also resulted in a few delays in flights at the International Denver Airport. Crew has also been working on keeping the airplanes free from ice for smooth functioning.
Wyoming and Montana have also witnessed at least a foot of snow which further resulted in the closure of some stretch of the Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie. Authorities have advised people to avoid travel unless very necessary in parts of North and Central Wyoming.
The Independence Pass in Colorado which is at a height of over 12000 feet has been declared closed until May. At present, The Rockies is in desperate need of some snowfall, and Argos has come at just the right time.
