Japan witnesses a trio of tropical stormsA series of tropical storms developed in the peripherals of Japan last weekend. NASA’s satellite image showed the storm trio spinning close to the land of the rising sun. These three systems were named as Kompasu, Lionrock and Mindulle.

One of these systems, Mindulle made landfall close to Tokyo during the beginning of the week as a typhoon. Since its landfall, the system once again weakened into a tropical storm.

Mindulle wreaked havoc over the national capital. So much so that it claimed a life and injured eleven others as it roared over the Tokyo area. Warnings of landslides, heavy rains, flooding, gusty winds and swollen rivers in the eastern part of the country.

Over 500 flights were cancelled across the nation in view of the storms. Not only this, the Narita International Airport had also closed its runway temporarily. Cancellation and delays of trains including super-fast bullet trains were also reported.

As per meteorologists, Hokkaido was expected to receive rainfall up to 200 mm around Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Kompasu hit the northern island of Hokkaido on Sunday and has since then weakened into a depression and moved to the Sea of Okhotsk. The storm had caused flooding in the city of Kitami where a person was found dead on Monday. The third tropical storm, Lionrock is not expected to hit Japan directly.
