A dramatic change of weather conditions, from unusually dry and drought to a possible flooding, is to take place in parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas. There is a possibility that over 300 mm of rain could occur over a span of three days in some areas. This rainfall is attributed to moisture incursion from the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean over the southern and central states.
This spell of rainfall will prove beneficial by replenishing dry ranges and lawns. But, it will also lead to potential flooding later this week.
Rainfall will intensify and the rain belt will move eastwards, reaching up to the south and central states in the middle of this week.
There is flooding threat for major cities like Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Amarillo and Brownsville in Texas. Flood alert has been issued for Oklahoma City and Tulsa as well. The rainfall over the region will be beneficial as abnormally dry condition has been prevailing for quite a while.
Flash flooding on Friday will be highly localized. During the end of the week and early next week, the moisture incursion will lead to flooding downpours in Texas and Oklahoma. This region will face the greatest threat of flash flooding. In some areas, the flooding could be so severe that it might prompt evacuations. This could also swell large rivers during the weekend into early next week.
