Severe weather conditions are expected to disrupt ongoing rescue operations, after an Airbus A320 Germanwings aircraft had slammed into southern French Alps on March 24.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, an intense low pressure area is approaching Mediterranean and would cause widespread heavy rain and snow over the Alps. As a result, relief operations will be marred up to a large extent due to the extreme weather activity coupled with poor visibility conditions over remote mountainous region.
The unfortunate German carrier was carrying 150 people en route from Barcelona, Spain to Duesseldorf, Germany when it suddenly went down between Barcelonnette and Digne. Reportedly, flight continued to descent for good eight minutes and hence, chances of any survival were highly unlikely.
Though the reason of the crash is still uncertain, circumstances do indicate that weather might have played some part in this disaster.
Meanwhile, this slow-moving system also gave heavy rain over eastern Spain, triggering floods over the region. The situation was grim in Castellon city, as roads were inundated and water gushed inside homes. The city recorded very heavy rain of about 75-100 mm in a very short span of time.
Fire crews were pressed in for relief operations as several people were stuck in their homes and vehicles.
