Icy cold weather is expected to sweep into the eastern United States in the later part of the week which is likely to settle until February.

Moreover, by the end of the week, due to colder weather, temperatures in most of the areas are likely to become more typical in the month of March.

Temperatures were at their highest point on Wednesday in the Midwest and along the Atlantic seaboard on Thursday. However, now, mercury is expected to drop by 10-20°F in most of the locations by Friday.

The north region which was witnessing temperatures in the upper 40s or lower 50s may be replaced by highs in upper 20s or lower 30s. While the southern region may see temperatures settling in higher 40s and 50s instead of the prevailing 60s and 70s.

The reason for plummeting temperatures in parts of the Southeast states for the next few days can be attributed to the cold air that is directed south of the Great Lakes and the Northeast. Though the weather will not be as cold as is prevailing but feel alike of temperatures will be 30-40 degrees colder.

Moreover, as per the Meteorological Department, along with the chilly weather, a few locations may also observe some snow during late January and early February.

Parts of Upper Midwest, central Appalachians, and interior Northeast may witness lake-effect flurries and heavy squalls as cold air is expected to sweep across the Great Lakes picking up moisture. Poor road conditions and poor visibility at various highways and roads is also likely.

Snowfall accumulating to 1 or 2 inches is also expected per hour. In addition to this, the Alberta clippers, the storm from Canada is also driving in weather unsettlement across the regions.
