Heavy snow in Northeast USA on New Year's Day

After an unseasonably warm December, January 2016 or the New Year will be the harbinger of perfect wintery conditions in parts of USA. After the winter storm system affected weather in Midwest USA earlier this week, true winter-like conditions are rapidly approaching parts of Northeastern USA as they brace for snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Though New Year Celebration in parts of USA may dampen as heavy snow followed by treacherous travel is expected to lash starting tonight.

The heaviest snow is expected to fall on Thursday night into the first part of New Year's Day.

Heavy snowfall is likely over Erie, Oswego, Pennsylvania and New York. Snowfall is likely to remain light in parts of Cleveland, Buffalo, and Michigan. This snow will come at a time when many are hitting the roadways to attend New Year's Eve firework displays and celebrations.

Parts of northern New England have already received 6 inches of snow, while New York bore the brunt of inclement weather and has received almost 8-10 inches of snow so far.

The parts of Northeast USA that were flirting with record warmth during the snowless and warm December are eagerly waiting for the snowfall.
