In view of inclement weather conditions, the Sharm El-Sheikh Harbour remained shut for operations on Sunday. Strong gusty winds caused a lot of problem for the ships. Several towns in South Sinai were flooded by heavy showers. Rainfall continued in Alexandria for a third day, leading to huge puddles in some streets.

Director of the Red Sea Ports Authority informed the local media that this measure was taken to protect public and private property. This also ensured maritime safety at a time when the sea wave heights reached about 3 to 4 meters.

Greater Cairo and several other parts of the country received heavy showers throughout Friday and Saturday.

Heavy rainfall on Sunday led to a technical breakdown on the metro stations between Thakanat El-Maadi and Dar El-Salam. Operations were halted for about 90 minutes. In Asyut, evening shifts in schools were suspended due to the heavy rains. The Giza Governorate supplied about 44 water-suction cars to deal with flooding across the region.

Meanwhile, the Minya Governorate observed fog, heavy rain and cold temperatures. A major traffic jam was reported here. As a preventative measure, state of emergency was declared in this province.

High winds caused major traffic congestion on the Cairo-Aswan Agricultural road while sand storms stopped ferry movements in the Nile.

Inclement weather conditions are likely to travel from the west to the east during the next few days. Accordingly, Iraq could see heavy rainfall in the coming days.
