Updated on July 6, 2015: As reiterated by Skymet, northern parts of Pakistan are observing moderate to heavy rain. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Sialkot recorded 42 mm of rain, Balakot 21 mm, Kakul 8 mm, and Murree 7 mm. Currently, a Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and the axis of Monsoon trough is also running close to this system. Therefore, the intensity of rainfall is expected to increase over northern Pakistan and is likely to cover some areas of Central Pakistan as well. Heavy rain will continue till the July 8. However, scattered light to moderate rain is expected till July 12.
Updated on July 5, 2015: Currently, Pakistan is reeling under hot and humid conditions and no rain has occurred over South and West Pakistan since many days. However, on and off scattered rain has been witnessed over North and Central Pakistan. But these rains have not been able to provide any long time relief.
But now, the good news is that a Western Disturbance (WD) residing over Afghanistan and adjoining areas, is likely to bring good rain over northern parts of Pakistan. The system will also give scattered rain over central parts of the country.
As per Skymet, rainfall may start by July 6 evening and is expected to continue for next 4 to 5 days. On July 7 and 8, heavy rainfall is expected over Lahore, Sialkot, Jhelum, and Islamabad. In addition to the WD, the western end of axis of the Monsoon trough will also prove to be instrumental in giving rains over the region.
As these rains are likely to continue for the next 3 to 4 days, we can expect some major respite from existing sultry conditions in the region. Normally, Southwest Monsoon does not affect Pakistan so much. But the partnership of a WD with other weather systems in the western parts of Himalayas provide rains over the country.
Good rainfall activity to continue over Bangladesh
During the last 24 to 48 hours, fairly widespread moderate to heavy rain has been observed over Bangladesh. At present, a cyclonic circulation (CC) over North Bay of Bengal will continue to give good rainfall activity over Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal and northeastern states of India.
The Monsoon trough stretching from foothills of Himalayas to Bay of Bengal will also assist in enhancing the rainfall activity over the region. Light to moderate rainfall will continue for another 2 to 3 days with isolated heavy rainfall at some places.
Later on, this rain belt will shift towards the west and a significant decrease in rainfall activity will be witnessed from July 9 and 10.
