Heatwave grips parts of U.S., hotter weekend likely

The scorching heat index in most parts of Eastern U.S. is likely to surpass 105°F and may reach up to 115°F. The reason of these heatwave conditions could be attributed to a heat dome that actually captures hot air underneath making the weather conditions sultry and humid.

This hot air is likely to hit parts of central U.S. in the latter week, henceforth stepping towards the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.

Heat warnings have been issued in more than dozen states from Louisiana to Minnesota. President Barack Obama on Wednesday had urged the citizens to be well prepared for upcoming severe heatwave on the weekend.

Most of the other regions of the state including Michigan, Indiana and northwest Ohio, and Kentucky are also to be kept under heatwave watch. Enormous heat warnings were also issued for Iowa and most parts of Nebraska, the Dakotas and Illinois.

The temperature recorded for Chicago on Tuesday was close to 80°F. On the contrary, mercury saw a whopping rise of 105°F in the South Dakota capital of Pierre on Wednesday.

Midwest cities including Omaha, Nebraska, and Des Moines, Iowa might witness sizzling heat with the degrees rising well above 100°F. The night temperatures might also be close to 70°F. Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City could experience highs in the upper 90's to close to 100 degrees.

Meteorologists claim that 90-degree temperature is most likely to affect about 200 million people along with 130 million experiencing heat indices of 100 degrees or high.

Death of a 90-year-old lady has also been reported due to severe heat at St. Louis County along with another news of hospitalization of a 4-year-old girl in Chicago.
