Near Record breaking heat wave sizzles Seattle and Portland, Oregon

August 3, 2015 5:32 PM |

Kevin PinnellThe northwestern parts of USA have been reeling under intense heat wave and July signed off with near record breaking heat across the Seattle and Portland region. The intense heat wave is attributed to the strong high pressure area over the region.

The temperatures are likely to cross 38°C mark throughout Oregon's Willamette Valley and other locations across the interior northwest. The temperatures are likely to be in the mid to high 30s along Washington's I-5 corridor. Few areas will be relatively cooler due to the proximity of water bodies. The same effect will be felt in downtown Seattle.

The heat wave in Seattle broke the record of observing most days of above 32°C temperature in a year before the end of July.

The people in the region have been advised to have plenty of water, wear light clothes and avoid strenuous exercises mainly during midday and afternoons.

Some relief is expected during this week but another short spell of hot weather is approaching the region next week.
