The state of Hawaii is currently undergoing rounds of flooding downpours. There is a tropical depression Kilo which is located around 925 km west-southwest of Barking Sands, Hawaii. Kilo will spin towards the west away from Hawaii in the coming days thus, having no effect on Hawaii.
The downpours that are being experienced are not part of the tropical depression. The heavy downpours are attributed to a high pressure area over the northern Pacific which has pushed a front to the north of Hawaii, this has induced massive moisture incursion over Hawaii. On Sunday Honolulu received nearly 75 mm of rain in just 12 hours. Humidity levels will be high thus, making it uncomfortable for the people in the region. Thundershowers can be expected daily over the region including the drier leeward side.
The atmosphere is very unstable with enough moisture that could lead to heavy downpours resulting in flash flooding and mudslides. The risk of flooding will increase when wet weather persists along with saturated ground. Even if there is no flooding the heavy rains will make travel difficult because of reduced visibility. Air transportation could be disrupted as well.
These downpours are likely to continue over the region throughout the week.
