Gusts, lightning to lash Brisbane

Heavy storms with powerful winds and lightning are likely to hit Brisbane by Monday evening.

An array of thunderstorms over the Darling Downs were expected to hit Toowoomba in the afternoon, before moving on to Ipswich around 4 pm.

The major danger will be gusty, windy conditions with these storms. There is also a chance of lightning with major showers across many areas later this afternoon.

As per weather experts, these storms are expected to move at a speed of 50-70 mph and are slated to hit all of  a sudden, bringing 15-20 minutes of rain, wind, lightning and thunder and then the very next minute it will vanish.

At present, there are no big gusts with the storms, however, once they move through Toowoomba one can expect more violent wind gusts.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a wind warning on Monday with gusts of up to 60 kilometres over coastal waters on the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Gold Coast.

These winds can be attributed to the storm system which is moving eastwards.

In the light of this trough, strong northerly winds will lash the region, the reason why the strong wind warning for coastal waters has been issued. Temperatures will be comparatively less overnight with dry westerly winds bringing these storms.

Brisbane is expected to be sunny on Tuesday.
