Sri Lanka Rains

The neighboring country, Sri Lanka has been receiving good rains from the last 2-3 days. In fact, the last 24 hours also brought a bunch of good showers for the country wherein most parts of the country recorded light to isolated moderate spells.

In the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Tuesday, Vavuniya recorded moderate rains to the tune of 71 mm, Batticaloa 48.6 mm, Trincomalee 33.9 mm, Anuradhapura 33.5 mm, and Kandy witnessed 6.5 mm of rains.

Skymet Weather states that presently two weather systems are affecting the weather of Sri Lanka. The first one is a cyclonic circulation that can be marked over the southeast Arabian S. While the other is a cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal.

The rains that lashed the country in the past day were a result of these two weather systems. As of now also, moderate rains with one or two heavy spells are likely to continue in many parts of Sri Lanka.

These rains are anticipated to continue lashing for the next 48 hours. Thereafter, there will be a respite from these moderate to heavy rains as the Northeast Monsoon is all set to commence. Due to this, rains will witness a slight reduction though the intensity of rains will continue to remain on a higher side for the eastern parts of the country such as over Jaffna, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee.
