A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) has caused fairly widespread rain in a many areas of North Pakistan. Heavy rain in different parts of Pakistan has caused a dip in the day temperatures while minimum temperatures have risen by couple of degrees. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the rainfall will continue for the next 48 hours as system moves slowly eastwards.
Also, there are chances of heavy snowfall over the hills. Other countries including Iran, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have experienced fairly widespread rains in last 24-48 hours. WDs are the low pressure systems originating in Caspian or Mediterranean Sea. As these systems travel from west to east, they are called WDs by Indian meteorologists.
In Pakistan, most of the northern cities received light to moderate rainfall in last 24 hours like Dir observed 14 mm, the highest amount of rainfall in the country. Chitral received 6 mm rain. Drosh recorded 8 mm of rain. Balakot and Parkhar observed 4 mm and 11 mm rain, respectively. Some of the places including Murree, Kakul and Lahore received only 2 mm. Jhelum also received minimal rain at just 1 mm.
A few areas in Iran also received moderate rain including Mashhad and Torbat, which recorded 17 mm and 16 mm rainfall, respectively. Turkmenistan was also affected by the system, receiving rainfall in areas like Byrdalyk 25 mm, Kerki 20 mm, and Karsanga 21 mm. Tarmez in Uzbekistan observed 23 mm rainfall. Pyandj and Gangina in Tajikistan also recorded 19 mm and 23 mm rain, respectively.
