After a wet start in January, the rains will now ease out and more breaks between rain showers are expected across much of France this week.
This break in heavy rainfall will come as a welcome change for the people in France who have been reeling under very wet conditions so far.
During the last weekend, Paris received around 13 mm of rain which has brought the total January rainfall to 48 mm (till January 10), against the monthly average of 76 mm. In Nantes, the rainfall figure so far has crossed the monthly average. The monthly average for Nantes is 71 mm and the city has already recorded around 90 mm of rain in the first 10 days of January.
A full day of dry weather is expected across much of central France on Wednesday. Basse-Normandi and Picardie to Auvergne and Rhone Alps will also see a break in the wet weather conditions. On Wednesday, only a few places will experience showers. These places include Alsace and Lorraine in eastern France. Afternoon showers will be experienced in western parts of Bretagne, Pays de la Loire, Poitou Charente and into Aquitaine. However, these showers will be very less. In fact, less than 2 mm of rainfall will occur in most places.
On Thursday, widespread showers will return over much of the country. The showers will be light across the southern parts of the country. The showers could be heavy for Nord Pas de Calais to Ile de France on Thursday morning. These showers will be accompanied by gusty winds and will linger on till Friday. After Friday dry weather is set to make another comeback. During this time, the temperatures will fall sharply and settle close to freezing levels.
