Southwestern France witnessed torrential rains that led to flash floods in most pockets. As per weathermen, a total of three months’ rain has fallen in just six hours.

According to the recent findings, the floods have claimed 12 lives so far.
The reason for these monstrous rains was the remnants of Atlantic Hurricane Leslie that had hit the Iberian Peninsula on Saturday.
Furthermore, the River Aude was among the waterways that swamped from the hefty rainfall resulting in floods. Weathermen consider this flood episode to be the regions worst in more than a century.
The French government sped hundreds of rescue workers to the affected areas and helicopters hummed aloft. Schools were closed and authorities urged people to stay indoors.
The worst hit was the villages of Conques-sur-Orbiel, Villardonnel and Villegailhenc. Due to pushing waters, people stranded on the roofs of their homes. In fact, they had to be helicoptered to safety. Even on boats it was hard for the emergency services to reach the area. Rescue operations are still underway.
French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe is expected to visit Aude to gauge the damage. Even President Emmanuel Macron would visit the region soon.
2018 so far has been France’s warmest since the year 1900 as reported by weathermen.
