France braces for a fierce storm on Wednesday

france stormA storm will strengthen, bringing downpours and damaging winds to parts of France on Tuesday night into Wednesday. The rain will start affecting the northwest parts and cities like Brest, Lorient and Saint-Brieuc that will be dampened by the rain.

Areas from Nantes to Le Mans, Tours and Orleans will experience a few spells of heavy rain on Tuesday night. The rain will reach Paris and Toulouse by Wednesday early morning. This will lead to travel disruptions during the morning commute. The rainfall will occur throughout Wednesday but the heaviest rain will occur during the morning.

Rainfall totaling upto 25 mm is possible across northern and western France where isolated flooding could be possible. Elsewhere, moderate rainfall of upto 12 mm is possible. However, these downpours will be enough to cause travel delays for a brief period of time.

Along with the rain, strong winds will also affect the region, with the maximum threat across northern and western France. Strong winds will start affecting on Tuesday night with wind speed increasing as the night moves along. The strongest winds will be experienced on Wednesday morning with possibility of wind gusts of upto 100 kmph from St-Malo southward to Nantes and Bordeaux.

Further to the east, strong winds of upto 50 kmph will accompany the rain. The storm will weaken on Wednesday night thereby, bringing an end to the rain and gusty winds.
