Foggy conditions lead to huge pile ups in South Korea and China

PileupIn two separate incidents in the Asian countries of South Korea and China, huge car pile ups were reported during morning rush hours. In Seoul close to Incheon International Airport due to fog and icy conditions a multi-car pile up has left two dead and 68 injured. This was due to extremely low visibility of 10 m because of which drivers could hardly see.

The pile up involved about 100 vehicles on a bridge close to Incheon International Airport. Seven among the injured were in serious condition. The injured included 18 foreigners comprising of seven Chinese, three Thai nationals and two each from Philippines and Vietnam. The authorities have been able to clear most of the damaged cars from the 4400 m cross-sea Bridge on the highway from the airport to the capital city of Seoul. Fog delayed the departure of 18 flights and affected the arrival of seven others in the early morning hours.

In a separate incident in Sichuan province in China, a 35 car pile up has led to injuries to many people. The exact number of injured people is still not known. This incident was also caused due to foggy conditions with zero visibility during morning rush hours. Rescue workers have freed a person after he was trapped for two hours.
