NOAA has finally announced La Nina’s arrival on Thursday.
As per the Climate Prediction Center’s forecast, the weather conditions are expected to be warm and dry across the state of Florida. However, parts of the Tampa Bay may witness a spell of gloomy weather.
During the last seventy years, there have been 20 La Nina events out of which eleven have been weak, three have been strong and six have been of a moderate nature. While the moderate and strong La Ninas result in warm and dry winters for Tampa Bay.
As far as the weak La Ninas are concerned, they have given mixed results. Other factors including the North Atlantic and Arctic oscillation come into play here.
Out of the eleven weak La Ninas, Tampa Bay witnessed above normal temperatures merely four times during the winters. Also, six times, the rainfall amounts were below than the average levels.
While it is not easy to give a clear cut-forecast, other factors indicate that winter is expected to be warmer and drier this time. However, the possibility of on and off cold fronts cannot be ruled out which may bring wetter and cooler weather conditions.
