Torrential rains have triggered devastating floods in China, claiming around 112 lives. China’s longest river Yangtze has been flowing above the danger levels and has reportedly affected about 16 million people.
Moreover, the approaching Typhoon Nepartak is expected to further worsen the situation which is likely to make landfall in the next 24 to 48 hours.
After battering Taiwan, the typhoon will be again moving into the sea. Thereafter, it will regain the strength and move towards China.
According to state meteorological department, South China is prone to floods during the summer Monsoon. However, this year has been witnessing exceptionally heavy rainfall.
China’s national observatory had already issued an orange alert for the incessant rains and typhoon across the South and East China last week. This is considered to be the second highest warning for Category 4 system.
Several parts of Asia have been reported to be reeling under the floods, wherein 33 people were killed in Pakistan, while 25 in India.
