Floods lash Lebanon, Israel and Palestine

Floods in LebanonTorrential rains and severe storms have triggered floods in parts of Lebanon, Israel and Palestine territories.

Beirut city witnessed wind storms on Saturday through Sunday, which left several streets inundated. Inclement weather left thousands of people without power. Worst-hit was the transport, as roads were heavily flooded, especially vital highways, barring vehicular movement leading to lengthy flight delays and disruption in rail traffic.

In a span of 24 hours up to 0600 GMT on Sunday, city observed 73 mm of rain, surpassing the monthly average rainfall of 67 mm for November.

Meanwhile, Israel also observed similar weather conditions, where heavy downpours wreaked havoc, as roads were flooded in Tel Aviv and the West Bank. Several injuries were reported due to rain related incidents and an incident of fire due to lightning in Jerusalem.

Ben-Gurion International Airport recorded 83 mm of rain by Sunday against the monthly normal of 71 mm. The local train service was forced shutdown  and stranded passengers were rescued by a bus.

As per the latest forecast, the rain is now moving eastwards across Iraq and Kuwait towards Iran. However, more rain is still expected during the next 48 hours.
